Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

When you live by the principles of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, you accept what’s out of your control and commit to action that improves your life. It helps you live a much more rich, full & meaningful life while accepting the pain that inevitably goes with it. 

 

In sessions you will learn new skills which will help you improve your quality and enjoyment of life. You will form new habits and ways of being that will enable you to be resilient when you encounter the stresses and challenges that life will inevitably throw at you.

 

It will help you understand who you truly are in your heart, what is important to you and how you want to show up in your life so you have a clear purpose and direction as you go forward. 

Objective
The objectives are to:

  • Create a bespoke toolkit so you can create new habits and behaviours

  • Enable self-acceptance and (re)connection with self

  • Understand and harness the power of your personal values

  • Enable self-value and responsibility

  • Understand your passion and purpose

  • Create goals for your future and an action plan to make them happen.

   
Core Elements of ACT Therapy Sessions
There are six core processes of ACT which we will explore during our sessions.
Acceptance: Be emotionally open without clinging or avoiding.
Defusion: Notice what you’re thinking, take what’s useful and leave the rest.
Present Moment: Bring your attention to the present moment in a way that’s flexible, fluid and voluntary. Having the ability to switch off from living on auto-pilot to fully engage.

Values: Work out how you want to show up in your life. Be true to what is in your heart and bring meaning and purpose into your life. Values are the qualities you want to reveal in your life moments.
Committed Action: Choose to build habits around what brings your life meaning and purpose.
Self As Context: Awareness of your true consistent inner self. The spark that makes you the individual unique person that you are.
